Web Design

In Development - Western Safety Consulting Inc. Website

The project: To redesign the website for Western Safety Consulting.

The tools: Adobe Photoshop CS4, Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, Adobe Flash CS4, HTML, CSS.

The details: Western Safety Consulting Inc approached me about doing a redesign of their website. They were looking to update their existing site to give it a more modern look and feel in addition to increased functionality.

The client wanted to incorporate the company's color scheme into the overall site design and draw attention to their corporate branding. A flash animation has been added to the logo, and the initial mock-up of the site, built in Photoshop, has been approved by the client and is currently in development using HTML and CSS. This site is progress and will be coming soon.

Commonwealth Place Condominiums Website

The project: To create a website for Commonwealth Place Condominiums.

The tools: Adobe Photoshop CS4, Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, HTML, CSS.

The details: The Commonwealth Place Condo board needed a website built to provide information to their buildings' owners. They wanted a clean, professional-looking four page website, containing a private and password protected page for owners only.

After meeting with the client, a general color scheme was decided upon and I went to work. A mock-up of the site was created in Photoshop, and then shown to the client for feedback. Once the client was happy with the site, it was created using HTML and CSS. The site is built so that the addition of new content by the client will be an easy task that requires no major coding changes. Password protection for the private page was done using .htaccess.

The Disc Tray

The project: To construct a website driven by a php/MySQL database that catalogs a collection of blu ray movies.

The tools: Adobe Photoshop CS4, Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL

The details: Proving to be a very valuable learning experience, this project was quite dynamic. The purpose was to create a catalogue website which could be updated and edited in real time. The administrator of the site can add new entries and images into a database. Images are uploaded, cropped and resized with the click of a button. The content and its corresponding image is then retrieved from the database and displayed on the main page. This site provides an example of the power of a php/sql driven website.

Great Northern Snowcat Website

The project: To redesign the website for Great Northern Snowcat Skiing.

The tools: Adobe Photoshop CS4, Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, HTML, CSS, Javascript.

The details: Great Northern Snowcat is a back-country ski company located near Revelstoke hoping to update the look and feel of their website as well as better provide their customers with information about their business. This project is undergoing a massive overhaul. Originally started as an assignment during my time at NAIT, this project is now being turned into a live site. Due to the fact that my skills as a designer and developer have improved dramatically since the original concept was created, a re-design is now necessary. So, while the current version of this site is still available, the new version will bear little resemblance. The updated site will be launching in the near future.

Blueprint CSS Exercise: NAIT Homepage

Note: This was done as a school project to learn how to use the Blueprint CSS web design tool. This project has no affiliation with the actual live NAIT website.

The project: To redesign the homepage for NAIT using Blueprint CSS.

The tools: Adobe Photoshop CS4, Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, HTML, Blueprint CSS.

The details: The main focus of this project was to become familiar with a valuable web-building tool, Blueprint CSS. Blueprint utilizes a built-in grid system that increases work flow by streamlining the process of laying out and sizing content containers as well as formatting text. The task was to use Blueprint to redesign the homepage of the NAIT website. All information that was on the site at the time had to be in the new design as well, and the NAIT branding guidlines had to be followed strictly.

Graphic Design

NYC Typography Poster

The project: To create a poster that represents the city of New York using only typography.

The tools: Adobe Illustrator CS3, Adobe Photoshop CS3.

The details: This was a graphic design project, the focus of which was using typography to create an image that represented the city of New York. I chose to re-create the torch held by the statue of liberty using a variety of fonts. While this project sounded relatively simple at first, it proved to be quite challenging. I was most satisfied with the fact that I was able to create a sense of motion in the flame by layering numerous letters with varying opacities and shades of orange and red.

Tibor Kalman Mentorship

The project: To design a magazine-style layout in the style of the designer chosen, and to write about his influence on the design community.

The tools: Adobe Illustrator CS3, Adobe Photoshop CS3, Adobe InDesign CS3

The details: The title of this project, Influential Properties, speaks volumes as to what this experience was all about. Given a pool of designers to choose from, the goal was to create a four-page magazine layout about that designer using his design style. The designer I chose was Tibor Kalman. His unique style and willingness to speak his mind were very inspirational to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the life of this fascinating man. That I also learned a great deal about the layout of imagery and text while doing this project was simply a bonus.
